The companies that manage the national lottery reportedly include relatives of Lao state officials and businesspeople. The government is supposedly paying these private interests annually to be responsible for the lottery, but no one inspects their work. “These private business interests should not be allowed to be responsible for the national lottery, because the drawings can’t be trusted,” a source told RFA.
