Lottery online is a way of playing lottery games over the Internet. It has become very popular in many countries and it is one of the fastest growing segments of Internet gambling. In the United States, it is estimated that more than 70% of lottery game play occurs online. The popularity of lottery online has made it difficult for gaming regulators to regulate the industry because gaming laws do not address the issues associated with playing online. Currently, there are over 200 companies that offer lottery-style games over the Internet. Many of these sites charge premiums over base lottery prices for their services. In addition, there are websites that act as a middleman between the player and the official lottery operator.
Lotteries are government-sponsored, competitive drawings for prizes ranging from money to goods or services. Prizes may be given for a single drawing or over a period of time. Some lotteries are used to raise funds for specific projects, while others are conducted as public entertainment or for the benefit of charitable organizations. Lotteries are generally legal in most jurisdictions but can be illegal in some.

Today, lottery is a worldwide phenomenon and the most common source of charitable revenue in many countries.
Lao state officials are rigging the national lottery, buying chances for players with connections to the country’s ruling elite, sources tell RFA’s Lao Service. In the latest drawing on Oct. 14, a number was shown to be a winner but then vanished from purchased tickets or was ruled unlucky and not chosen. The government has now ordered the Ministry of Finance to investigate the situation and ensure the transparency of the national lottery.
