These games, often known as “instant” lottery games, allow players to purchase tickets online and win prizes based on the results of a computer generated random number generator. The games can range from scratch-off tickets to digital versions of traditional slot machines.
In Liechtenstein, a lottery is an integral part of the local economy, with over 90% of residents participating. The lottery is regulated at the state level, and profits are used to support charitable projects and organizations domestically and internationally. The country also hosts a large number of offshore gambling sites, which are open to players from Laos and other countries. This is despite the fact that gambling in general is illegal in the country. In an attempt to combat the illegal lottery operations, the country’s prime minister issued a directive on Aug. 17 requiring that the Ministry of Finance, which oversees the legal state lottery, work with law enforcement to better manage the issue.
