A state official speaking on condition of anonymity told RFA’s Lao Service that a directive sent to the Ministry of Finance on Aug. 17 asked the agency to work with the police to better manage the problem of illegal lottery games. Among other things, the directive stipulated that state lottery drawings must be reduced to one per week and winnings handled more transparently. It also ordered the closure of informal football lotteries and those that sell lottery chances via short messaging services.

The national lottery of Liechtenstein is a public lottery run by the International Lottery in Liechtenstein Foundation (ILLF), a philanthropic organization whose mission is to support charitable projects and organizations domestically and internationally.
