A government official cited by RFA told the news agency that the steering committee was investigating the claims and would take measures to help restore faith in the lottery. He said that while blocking certain numbers and reducing the number of drawings may help reduce shenanigans, these things are outside the purview of the steering committee.
A source told RFA that private business interests with a stake in the state lottery also have connections to the country’s ruling elite. The sources say that the companies should not be responsible for overseeing a national lottery, because the results cannot be trusted.
