In Laos, the official state-run Lottery Enterprise has been unable to control illegal lottery operations run by foreign businesses operating in the country. The government has vowed to stop this practice by regulating the lottery sector, Finance Minister Bounchom Ubonpaseuth said recently. The Ministry of Finance is working with other departments to set up a system to trace illegal activities and prosecute those involved. These illegal businesses, he added, have been selling foreign lottery tickets to the public even though they are not allowed to do so under the law.
