Drawings are often marred by the disappearance of lucky numbers on purchased tickets or by a change in the number just before the drawing is made. For example, on Oct. 14, the number 509 disappeared from tickets bought throughout the day before being restored only 10 minutes before the drawing, the source said.
A member of parliament called for action to regulate illegal online lottery sales and warned that the games were encouraging people to become addicted to gambling. Finance Minister Bounchom Ubonpaseuth told the National Assembly that he was aware of the issue and had instructed authorities in charge to invest in a system to trace those involved in this illegal business. He said that lottery sales from foreign countries – such as Vietnam’s – have been sold unlawfully in Laos even though the country has its own legal lottery.
