One such allegation stems from the fact that companies responsible for the lotteries in Laos are owned by members of the country’s ruling elite. In addition to the family of Prime Minister Thongsing, they include relatives of former president Khamtay Siphandone and Vice President Bounchanh Mouangkham. A caller to RFA’s Lao Service says the private business interests should not have control of a national lottery, because their drawings cannot be trusted.
