Today, there are four nationwide lotteries in Canada: Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max (which replaced the old Lotto Super 7 in September 2009), Daily Grand, and Millionaire Life. Lotteries in other provinces and territories are run by regional lotteries – Atlantic Lottery Corporation (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador), Loto-Quebec (Quebec), Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (Ontario), Western Lottery and Gaming Corporation (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Northwest Territories, Yukon), and British Columbia Lottery Corporation (British Columbia).
Selling lottery tickets is the only source of income for some Vietnamese people who live in poverty. They prefer this way of making a living to the socially detested act of begging. On a good day, a single lottery seller can earn up to 230 000 VN-Dong per day, just enough to survive. Huong, a single mother from Saigon, is one such lottery seller. She and her partner Manh spend 16 hours a day striving around the streets of Saigon trying to sell their tickets.
