A government directive issued on Aug. 17 called for the Ministry of Finance, which oversees the nation’s legal state lottery, to work with the Ministry of Public Security to better manage the issue. It also ordered that the frequency of state lottery drawings be reduced from two to one a week, and winnings handled in a more transparent manner. It also urged the authorities to close down informal football lotteries and lottery chances sold through short messaging services.
