Finance Minister Bounchom Ubonpaseuth recently addressed the issue of illegal lotteries during an extraordinary session of parliament. He said the matter was difficult to deal with because it takes place mainly online and needs investment in a system for tracking those involved. He promised that action will be taken to regulate these unlawful operations, which lure people into habitual betting. The minister was responding to calls from lawmakers for an effective measure against the illegal activities. He added that a committee has already been formed to deal with the problem. The committee will look at ways to make it easier for the government to trace those who sell the tickets. The results of this review will be submitted to the cabinet.
