The official national lottery, which is held three times a week in the capital city Vientiane, is widely rigged, sources tell RFA. Drawings often show numbers that have vanished from purchased tickets or deemed unlucky, and winning numbers are not always announced in advance. On Oct. 14 this year, the winning number 509 appeared only as a 5 on purchased tickets throughout the day of the drawing, and the number was finally posted to radio stations only an hour before the scheduled time of the draw. These irregularities are largely due to lack of oversight by the national lottery’s central office.
