Lottery online is a type of lottery in which players can win prizes without visiting a physical store. Instead, they use the Internet to purchase tickets from a central location and then submit their entries via a secure website. The site can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection. Depending on the rules of a particular lottery, players can be required to enter a unique code or personal information such as their name and address. Once the entry has been submitted, it will be processed and if successful, the winner will be notified through the mail.
Lotteries are state and/or provincially regulated, with some of the largest being run by the US government. VLTs are becoming increasingly popular in Vietnam, with many of the country’s poorest citizens turning to them as a way to supplement their incomes. For example, a single mother who sells lottery tickets in the Vietnamese capital of Saigon can earn up to 230 000 VND (11 US-Dollars) per day. This is more than enough to help her and her baby daughter survive, as well as avoid the socially detested act of begging.
In Laos, state officials say that private business interests are profiting from the sale of foreign lottery games, which is illegal under the law. The government has urged the lottery enterprise to reduce the number of drawings from two to one per week and enforce stricter controls, according to RFA’s Lao Service. The office of the prime minister has also requested that authorities work with police to crack down on informal lotteries in football stadiums and through SMS text messaging services. The ministry overseeing the legal state lottery says it is working on these measures.
