A lottery salesman who spoke on condition of anonymity told RFA’s Lao Service that the company’s executives can change the results of the drawing by deleting or changing numbers.
Lao officials who sit on the steering committee that oversees the lottery have promised to restore faith in the game by implementing changes. Vilasack Phommaluck, a finance ministry official on the panel, said that while blocking some numbers or refusing to sell them is outside the committee’s purview, other changes, such as cutting the drawings back to once per week, may be in the works. But he cautioned that the problem could still get out of hand.
