Lottery Online

Lottery online is a type of Internet gaming in which players can participate in lottery-style games by purchasing tickets and receiving winning numbers. Some websites charge premiums on the base price of the tickets while others do not. In either case, the overall cost of participating in lottery online is significantly cheaper than attending a live drawing. Many lottery-style games have become popular online and are accessible to a much wider audience than traditional lottery games.

Lotteries are a form of gambling, and are regulated by the state in which they operate. In New Zealand, the proceeds of the National Lottery are distributed by the Lottery Grants Board directly to community organizations. Lottery online in the United States is regulated by the Federal Government through the Gaming Control Act, and winners are subject to federal income taxes.

New Zealand: The national lottery is operated by the Lottery Commission, an autonomous Crown entity, and operates four games – Lotto (including Powerball and Strike), Keno, Bullseye, and Instant Kiwi scratch card games. The Commission also distributes lottery profits to a number of charitable and sporting bodies, including Sport and Recreation New Zealand, Creative New Zealand, and the New Zealand Film Commission.

Laos: Gambling is illegal in Laos, but the country does have Special Economic Zones which allow private business interests to operate legal casinos. The country’s three land-based casinos offer popular casino games such as poker, roulette and blackjack to its residents. Those interested in trying their hand at gambling from the comfort of their own homes can access several offshore online casinos that accept players from Laos.

Liechtenstein: The International Lottery in Liechtenstein Foundation, a state-controlled charitable foundation, oversees the country’s official state lottery. The organization was one of the pioneers of Internet gaming, launching the first Internet lottery website in 1995 and processing the first online transaction in 1996. The ILLF has since expanded its operation to include numerous websites, each offering a different mix of games.

Spain: The national lottery is a centralized, public-sector enterprise called Loterias y Apuestas del Estado, or LAE. It was established in 1994 and is regulated by the country’s Ministry of Justice. The lottery’s prize pool averages EUR2.4 billion per year.

Lottery officials in the communist country of Laos are accused of rigging the system by manipulating lottery drawings, a source told RFA’s Lao Service. In one example, the number 509 was shown on a winner’s ticket during a drawing on Oct. 14 but then disappeared from purchased tickets sold throughout the day of the drawing, the source said.
