The government is trying to address the issue by cutting down the number of drawings from two to one per week and ensuring that more transparency is given to the winnings. It is also working to close informal football lotteries and the sale of lottery chances over short messaging services.

Today, Canada has four nationwide lotteries, including Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max, and Daily Grand.
