Drawings of the state-run lottery often show numbers that have been purchased by many people, or numbers deemed unlucky. For example, on Oct. 14 this year, the winning number of 509 appeared only as a 5, even though it had been bought on tickets sold throughout the day, a source told RFA’s Lao Service.

The corporation is owned by its five member provinces and territories. It also manages a number of regional lotteries, such as the Quebec Extra.
