The sources said that the winning numbers in lottery drawings are often changed or disappear from purchased tickets. For example, the winning number in the Oct. 14 drawing was 509, but this number appeared only as a 5 on tickets sold throughout the day of the draw.
The company that operates the country’s legal state lotteries, BCorp, reported VND60 trillion ($2.8 billion) in sales during the first eight months of this year. During this time, the company’s main lottery product, Vietlott (Vietnam Computerised Lottery One Member Company Ltd), saw revenues grow by 48 percent compared to three years ago. This sharp increase is attributed to the introduction of instant lottery tickets, which are popular in Vietnam, as well as keno and video lottery terminals. In addition, the lottery’s revenues have been boosted by football and other informal lotteries that are sold via short messaging services.
