For example, a number from the drawing held on Oct. 14 this year, 509, disappeared from purchased tickets, but appeared only as 5 on the final winning ticket. This happened after the number was deemed to be unlucky and not likely to be chosen. The company responsible for the lottery is a group of businesses that includes family members of Lao national leaders.
