Speculation is rampant that some winning numbers vanish from purchased tickets before the drawings take place. In one case, the number 509, which was a lucky number in Laos, mysteriously disappeared from tickets sold throughout the day of Oct. 14 this year, just an hour before the scheduled drawing. This occurred after it became apparent that a large number of people wanted to purchase tickets containing this number.
