In Canada, there are four nationwide lotteries: Atlantic Lottery Corporation (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador), Quebec Lottery and Gaming Corporation (Quebec), Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (Ontario), and Western Canada Lottery Corporation (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and British Columbia). Until 1967 purchasing a lottery ticket was illegal in Canada. That year the federal Liberal government introduced a special bill, the Omnibus Bill, that brought up-to-date a number of obsolete laws, including one concerning lotteries.
