In Spain, for example, the lottery is operated by a state-owned company called Loterias y Apuestas del Estado. The company’s prize distribution is regulated by the government, and it supports charitable projects and organizations domestically and internationally. In contrast, in New Zealand, the prize allocations of the Lotto New Zealand are distributed by the Lottery Grants Board directly to charities and community groups. Lottery New Zealand also sponsors a variety of sports, arts, and cultural events. In addition, the company has a number of branded products such as Lotto, Powerball and Keno.
