Officials in Laos have responded to these claims by announcing new measures to improve transparency and accountability for the lottery. A deputy finance minister and state lottery supervisor, speaking on condition of anonymity, told RFA that the new directives will be strictly enforced. The regulations also include plans to allow the use of a third-party independent auditor to oversee the state lottery. The new rules will take effect Aug. 17. The new provisions are designed to protect the interests of ticket holders and the integrity of the lottery, he added.
