According to sources in the communist nation, winning numbers are sometimes removed from purchased tickets or deemed unlucky by lottery officials. In one incident, a winning number of 509 appeared only as 5 on tickets sold throughout the day of a lottery drawing on Oct. 14. The number was then changed to 662 only an hour before the drawing took place, a source told RFA’s Lao Service.
