For example, the winning number for the Oct. 14 drawing—509—was displayed as 5 on purchased tickets throughout the day of the drawing, only to appear as 9 in the final draw. In another case, a winning number—134—was changed to 662 only 10 minutes before the drawing began. This tampering is apparently meant to deter potential lottery winners from trying their luck at the national lottery, the sources say.
