Thai Lotto – Choosing Your Lucky Numbers

thai lotto

Thai lotto is one of only two legal forms of gambling allowed in Thailand – along with betting on horse racing – and draws take place twice each month, drawing large crowds. Administered by the Government Lottery Office (GLO), tickets contain six-digit numbers printed on paper treated with chemicals that won’t bleed bleach through, making the tickets safe against accidental spillages of bleach.

Picking lottery numbers involves many methods, from using a calculator and studying past results to choosing specific numbers based on an event such as their birthday or other personal milestones, as well as selecting multiple digits that represent certain symbols. Furthermore, some people try to find silver linings in unfortunate events by choosing their numbers accordingly.

Selecting the ideal lottery numbers is essential to success in lottery. Selecting numbers that suit you could mean the difference between small prizes and jackpots; however, getting carried away with estimates could prove costly. It is wise to develop a strategy tailored specifically for yourself in order to avoid making hasty decisions based on estimates alone.

Thai culture holds the belief that certain sets of numbers correspond to symbols in your dreams, or otherwise appear during wakeful states. To help determine your lucky numbers, try Esiimsi (Echiiymchii), an ancient form of fortune telling using bamboo sticks with numbers on them that are shaken until one falls out and designated your lucky number. Esiimsi may help determine your lucky number but is no guarantee you’ll win the lottery; visit temples like Sawang Arom to test whether this form of fortune telling works for you or not.

In order to claim your prize from GLO, simply present both your lottery ticket and valid ID document at their office. For prizes under 20,000 baht you should receive them on the same day; for jackpot prizes such as winning the entire pot it takes 15 days until your money arrives in your account. Furthermore, winners of government lotteries are subject to 0.5% stamp duty while charitable lottery prizes require 1.0% of stamp duty (0.5%) as an additional tax.
