If you have ever visited Thailand, you’ve likely witnessed that lottery is an integral part of culture and an immensely popular form of gambling in Thailand. This popularity stems from massive prizes available by matching up numbers. Yet some superstition is involved with selecting lottery numbers; many rely on religious, spiritual and mystical signs when making their decision; others visit temples to pray and seek divine assistance when choosing their numbers.
One of the more popular methods used for selecting lottery numbers is searching out numbers which have proven unlucky for others, such as accident reports or the license plates of passing cars. While this technique often results in significant wins, other methods exist such as praying to banana trees or using dream interpretation as means to find numbers that suit.
Some Thais also visit temples to seek supernatural advice about their lottery tickets, with one man from Ang Thong believing his pet tarantula could predict winning numbers for him and spending his days waiting for her to emerge from its hole and see what advice it provided him. This type of practice is common among Buddhist monks who offer consultations about lottery numbers.
Use of deceased relative numbers in lottery ticket selection is another effective strategy used to bring good fortune into families; when done right it can bring tremendous luck. Unfortunately, some have used this tactic as an instance of black magic and have been banned from lottery shops as a result of such actions.
The official Thai lotto draws are held twice each month by the Government Lottery Office, on the 1st and 16th. Both Thais and foreigners can buy tickets, though if you are from abroad you’ll need your passport and proof of address before purchasing tickets; then when the draw concludes present your ticket(s) along with ID to claim your prize!
Thai Lotto can be enjoyed online or purchased tickets at convenience stores and some supermarkets. To be eligible to win, players must match all six digits in both winning number and bonus prize number – to do this, all six digits of both must match. In order to do this and qualify for one of four prizes offered – first prize worth B30 Million, second B22 Million; third B40K and fourth B10k prize respectively (or fifth-place prize of B50K by matching last two digits of winning number or fifth prize of B50k), third and fourth prize offers also exist as options, or first three and four digits respectively (third-place prize and fourth place prize respectively). If not successful with one of these first prizes then at least you could still make this happen by matching three and four of either third or fourth prize offering two different approaches (for example match first three and four digits to gain eligibility).
