In Laos, the legal status of gambling is complex. While it is illegal in most parts of the country, it is permissible in Special Economic Zones. On Aug. 17, the office of Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith issued a directive asking the Ministry of Finance to work with the Ministry of Public Security to better handle the issue.
