Officials are seeking to reclaim control of the state lottery from business interests with connections to the ruling elite, a source in the capital said. The office of Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith issued a directive requesting the ministry overseeing the legal state lottery to reduce drawings from two to one per week and to handle winnings in a more transparent manner, the source added. The directive also called for the closure of informal football lotteries and lottery chances bought via text messaging.
