The Lao deputy finance minister, state lottery supervisor Sila Viengkeo, denied that the accusations were true. However, he said that the Aug. 17 directive sent from the office of Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith instructing the Ministry of Finance to reduce lottery drawings to two times per week and deal with irregularity complaints in a more transparent manner would be strictly enforced. The ministry will also close down informal football lotteries and lottery chances purchased via short message service, he added.
