Besides selling lottery tickets, the couple also does freelance work as maids. But the amount they earn is insufficient to pay for the food and rent for their two-bedroom apartment. The couple has a young daughter and are expecting a second child soon.
For many poor Vietnamese people, selling lottery tickets is the only way to earn a living. But unlike the developed world, Vietnam’s social security systems aren’t yet able to support them. For them, lottery sales are a better alternative to the socially detested act of begging.
The International Lottery in Liechtenstein Foundation (ILLF) pioneered Internet gaming, processing the first online lottery transaction in 1995. It operates a group of websites, known as the ILLF brands. It supports charitable projects and organizations domestically and internationally. Winnings from the ILLF are not taxed in Liechtenstein. Lottery winnings can be redeemed at all authorised retailers. However, any ticket with a prize greater than $600 must be presented with the winning ticket and photo ID.
