In Laos, a communist country, state officials are accused of manipulating the national lottery. Officials are rigging the system by denying large pay-outs, sources told RFA’s Lao Service. The state-run lottery is not transparent, the sources said. Drawings are frequently rigged and numbers disappear from purchased tickets, they added.
New Zealand has a national lottery that is managed by the Government through an autonomous Crown entity, Lotto New Zealand. Profits from the lottery are distributed by the Lottery Grants Board directly to community and charitable organizations.
In Canada, there are four nationwide lotteries: Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max (which replaced Lotto Super 7 in September 2009), Daily Grand, and Millionaire Life. These are operated by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation, a consortium of five regional lottery commissions owned by their respective provincial/territorial governments: Atlantic Lottery Corporation (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador), Loto-Quebec (Quebec), Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (Ontario), Western Canada Lottery Corporation (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut), and British Columbia Lottery Corporation (British Columbia). In addition, some provinces have their own lotteries.
