Lottery Online

Lottery Online is a type of Internet gambling that allows people to play lottery-style games and win money. It is similar to traditional gambling but instead of buying a ticket, players compete against each other and the winners are announced after a drawing is held. The winnings are usually deposited directly to the player’s bank account. Many different types of online lottery games are available. These include instant games, multi-line games, scratch card games and keno. Several large companies provide these services. The GTech Corporation, headquartered in West Greenwich, Rhode Island, administers 70% of worldwide online lottery business, according to its website.

The state-run New Zealand Lottery operates four games: the Lotto, Powerball, Strike and Instant Kiwi. Lottery profits are distributed by the New Zealand Lottery Grants Board to charitable organizations domestically and internationally. In addition, Lottery New Zealand is one of the founding members of the International Lottery Foundation (ILLF), a nonprofit organization that pioneered Internet gaming and processed the first Internet lottery transaction.

In the communist country of Laos, officials in charge of the national lottery are rigging the system by manipulating winning numbers and limiting payouts to avoid large pay-outs, sources tell RFA’s Lao Service. A number like 509, which is associated with buffaloes and a popular symbol of good fortune in Laos, recently appeared as only a 5, while tickets sold throughout the day of the drawing included it, but was later restored to 509 in the winning results on a radio broadcast.

Lao authorities deny allegations of rigging, but RFA’s source says that Lao business interests have a stake in the state lottery and that companies that run it have close connections to the nation’s ruling elite. The source also says that government investigations into the alleged rigging have been hampered by the fact that a large portion of the lottery’s work is outsourced to private businesses.

A recent directive from the office of Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith calls on the Ministry of Finance, which oversees the legal state lottery, to work with the Ministry of Justice to better manage state-run gambling, including illegal football and lottery chances purchased by mobile phone text message, a source told RFA’s Lao Service. Officials also say they will reduce the frequency of state lottery drawings and ensure that winnings are handled in a transparent manner.

For many poor Vietnamese citizens, selling lottery tickets is the only way to make a living. For Huong, a single mother from the city of Saigon, her income from selling tickets helps her to feed her three children and provide medical care for them. She works long 16-hour shifts, but on good days she sells as many as 250 tickets and earns a daily profit of about 11 US-Dollars. On bad days, she sells only 180. Regardless, she prefers it to the socially detested act of begging.
