Drawings in the country’s legal state lottery, which are held two times a week, sometimes show numbers that appear only on purchased tickets or numbers that are considered unlucky and unlikely to be selected.
One source who spoke to RFA’s Lao Service on condition of anonymity said that private business interests responsible for the state lottery have connections with the ruling elite. He added that the government should regain control of the lottery and ensure the integrity of its drawings.
